Dr. Kaplan has been in Plastic Surgery practice in Norfolk since 1987. Originally from Johannesburg, South Africa, he immigrated to the USA in 1977. He did his internship at the Wilmington Medical Center in Delaware and subsequently completed a full General Surgery residency at Temple University, in Philadelphia, earning his Board Certification in 1983. He then completed a residency in Plastic Surgery at Eastern Virginia Medical School, under the tutelage of Dr. Charles E. Horton and his associates, recognized as one of the top Plastic Surgery residencies in the country. He received his Board Certification in Plastic Surgery in 1988. Subsequently, he undertook additional Fellowship training in Microsurgery and Hand Surgery, at the University of Louisville. He was Board certified in Hand Surgery in 1990.
Dr. Kaplan is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS), as well, as the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH).
Dr. Kaplan has been a lifelong student of art, with his primary focus, in recent years, on clay sculpture.
